Meet the Midwife
Rosemary Loperena CPM, LDM, CLE, BSM
(she/her)
Rosemary was born and raised on the beautiful Island of Puerto Rico. After working many years in the corporate world, she realized the universe had another path for her life.
Her birth work started in 2008 when she obtained her doula certification from Doula Caribe International and the Lactation Educator certification (CLE) from the Graduate School at the University of Puerto Rico. Her work as a doula offered the experience to witness the determination and courage of many Puerto Rican parents who faced many challenges and discrimination in many hospitals in P.R.
These experiences inspired her mission to provide every pregnant family with a dignified and respectful birth no matter their ethnicity, social status, religion or gender preferences. This gave her the strength and validation that midwifery was her destiny and vocation of life.
Rosemary completed a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery in 2018 and obtained her midwifery license to practice in Oregon in 2019, she opened with much excitement Puerta del Sol Midwifery serving the Latinx and BIPOC communities of Portland Metro area.
Rosemary Loperena graduated from Birthingway College of Midwifery with a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery. She is a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) through the North American Midwives Registry (NARM). In addition, she is licensed in midwifery (LDM) and recognized as a health provider in the state of Oregon. She is trained in Cardiovascular Resuscitation (CPR) for adults and children, as well as Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP), suturing, phlebotomy and pharmacological skills as part of the scope of midwifery practice. Rosemary had the opportunity to train for five plus years under the supervision of qualified and licensed midwives in Puerto Rico and in Portland, OR. She has attended more than 160 deliveries. Rosemary is an active member of the Oregon Midwives Council (WTO since 2014) and the Oregon Midwifery Foundation.
"In my spare time I enjoy hiking, going for lazy walks, working on my garden and playing tennis. Living in Oregon has renewed my passion for nature, and I love going to the forest and being surrounded by the eminence of Mother Earth."
